Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

Dear all,

I hope this message finds you well.

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share the tragic news of the recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar. The devastation has been immense—entire communities have been reduced to rubble, lives have been lost, and families have been torn apart. The Sagaing Region was the most severely affected, with approximately 80% of the area destroyed. Many people are now living on the streets, without shelter, food, clean water, or medical assistance.

The scenes from Sagaing are heartbreaking. Families are sleeping on the ground in the heat, sometimes as high as 38°C, children are going without food, and hospitals are overwhelmed or inaccessible. The need for support is urgent, and every bit of help can make a real difference.

Through the Shwe Yamin Foundation, which I founded in 2014, my team and I are working hard to bring relief to those affected. We are committed to continuing to provide clean water, medicine, clothing, and other essential supplies to the people in need. We don’t know how long it will take for our country to recover after the earthquake, especially with the destruction of our beloved pagodas and tourist attractions.

Under the current government regulations SYF continued our work under a temporary license while undergoing strict background checks. In 2024, SYF was one of only 38 charities that were formally approved to operate in Myanmar. SYF was honoured to be so chosen, and for being recognised for our transparency, clean record and complete non-political involvement.

To help you feel more confident in our work, I’ve attached a copy of our official foundation license, as well as  pictures of the aftermath of the earthquake. We believe in full transparency and welcome any questions you may have.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering a contribution. Any amount—no matter how small—can bring hope to someone in desperate need.

With deep gratitude,
Yamin

How your contributions have helped the people of Myanmar

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are deeply grateful for your continued generosity. On April 7, the Shwe Yamin Foundation team carried out a donation mission to a very remote area—where no other NGOs have been able to reach due to extremely difficult transportation conditions.

Thanks to your support, we were able to provide aid for:

1,000 households

25 essential accessories

200 Buddhist monks

300 Buddhist nuns

Medicines for 2 temporary hospitals

This marks our third time donating to this location. Due to the remoteness of the area, there are no social media posts, but rest assured your contributions are reaching those in urgent need.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
May the blessings of the Buddha be with you all.

With gratitude,

David and Yamin Boehm

Who we are?

The Shwe Ya Min Foundation is a local charity dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children in Myanmar.  We provide safe haven, lodging, food, education and medical support to children who need it most.  As an associate member of Childline International, we aim to set up a hotline to help children in urgent need.

Disadvantaged children in Myanmar need your help!

What do we do?

Our staff and tutors look after children in our care ensuring they are protected, nurtured and receive opportunities otherwise not available to them.  Our aim is to return children to be with their families as soon as their home environment are safe and supportive.

Every sunrise is an invitation for us to arise and brighten someone's day.
